Colleen’s life isn’t going anywhere. She live in a small town in South Dakota and is bored with her dead end job and annoyed by her apathetic boyfriend. In the midst of her turmoil, a pair of deranged serial killers begin leaving her photos of their victims. Her chance to escape comes in the form of Peter Hemmings, a hipster celebrity photographer who has traveled back to his hometown. Fascinated by killers’ unapologetic artistry and intentioned to use it for an ad campaign, Peter suggests Colleen as the centerpiece of a photo campaign in Los Angeles. But before Colleen can leave her old life behind, she must contend with the desires of her murderous stalkers.

Nick Simon
Nick Simon (Sioux Falls, SD, USA, 1973) is a graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory. He directed some short starting from 2008, and then made his feature-film debut in 2010 with Removal. In collaboration with Alexandre Aja, he then co-wrote the horror movie The Pyramid (Grégory Levasseur, 2014). Working alongside screenwriter Osgood Perkins (director of February, selected in After Hours section) and executive producer Wes Craven, The Girl in the Photographs is his second directorial feature film.

“The Girl in the Photographs began in 2010, right after I returned to my hometown of Sioux Falls, South Dakota for an extended period. Readjusting to the small town atmosphere after living in Los Angeles was particularly jarring. It inspired my wanting to make a throwback to the horror films of my childhood with added elements of my experiences in South Dakota and Los Angeles.”
