THE QUIET EARTH

THE QUIET EARTH
by Geoff Murphy
Country: New Zealand
Year: 1985
Duration: 91'

Zac, a New Zealand scientist, wakes up one morning and discovers he is the only person left on Earth because of an experiment he participated in. He slips toward madness, then tries to return to a normal life and meets two other survivors: a girl and a Maori. Directed by the director of Utu, a 1980s cult movie based on a novel by Craig Harrison, and The World, the Flesh and the Devil, whose anti-racist theme it mirrors. The shots of the cities and the deserted fields and Bruno Lawrence’s performance are breathtaking.
