THE WAR GAME

THE WAR GAME
by Peter Watkins
Country: UK
Year: 1965
Duration: 48'

World War Three: England is struck by an atomic bomb. Cities are destroyed, millions die, panic spreads. Released during the anti-nuclear campaign, the masterpiece by Peter Watkins is a political fiction mockumentary which reconstructs the disaster with the terse style of journalistic reporting and disquieting editing. Shot in Kent and commissioned by the BBC, it was judged too shocking to go on the air, was projected and won an Oscar in 1966.
