2013. During a night in Cayenne, a cortege of striking students ride through the city, giving a call to demonstrate for a fully functioning university in Guiana. The words of the youth Alan, who asks for justice and respect, seem to answer those of an old man who remembers. A former teacher, Jean Mariema, sees in this new combat the specter of past struggles: those which set him in opposition to André Malraux, come to pronounce a speech in Cayenne in 1958. The voices of history and the present intertwine and soon fighting bodies unite, around a poem, around a small piece of wood.

Pierre Michelon
Pierre Michelon (Nantes, France, 1984) studied fine arts at the École supérieure nationale d’art in Nice and at the École supérieure des beaux-arts in Nantes. His work has been featured in several art galleries and exhibitions, including the Goethe in Hanoi, the Museo d’arte contemporanea di Villa Croce in Genoa, the Friche Belle de mai in Marseille, and the Restaurant municipal Pierre Landais in Nantes. His work focuses on historical investigations of the colonial period and takes shape through different forms of art, from video, to installations, and performance art. He is member of the Fabrique Phantom and is currently enrolled in a postgraduate art program at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris.
