Declaration

film director

“On the beach during a family vacation in Taranto, Attilio Giovannini, the screenwriter, put the bug in my ear: why not try to shoot an animated feature film in Italy? I had never considered it because it’s an enormous project and it would mean going up against a giant like Disney. I was very stimulated by the idea but I would never have drawn inspiration from fairytales, like Disney does, because I’m not very interested in them. My reasoning led me to westerns, which I have always loved a lot and which I consider modern fairytales. After all, right from the start you know who the hero is, who will win, who will die and who the bad guy is. So I set off with the idea for West and Soda, and I’m still wondering how we were able to make it.”
