Between the second half of the 1980s and the end of the ’90s, Vinny Pazienza was an Italian-American boxer whose victories in the ring and excessive lifestyle had made him famous. At the peak of his career he was involved in a car accident which caused apparently irreparable damage to his spine. But thanks to the willpower and courage of his trainer, Kevin Rooney, Vinny managed to get back on his feet and start boxing again. This is his story. [mp]

Ben Younger
Ben Younger (New York City, Usa, 1972) ha debuttato nel 2000 con 1 Km da Wall Street, film sulle speculazioni della finanza americana interpretato da Ben Affleck e Giovanni Ribisi e presentato anche al Torino Film Festival; dopo alcuni cortometraggi ha diretto nel 2005 Prime, con Meryl Streep, Uma Thurman e Bryan Greenberg. Prima di lavorare nel cinema ha lavorato nel mondo della politica come analista per l’ufficio di controllo di New York. A soli ventuno anni ha diretto la campagna elettorale della candidata democratica Melinda Katz, diventando il più giovane direttore di una campagna elettorale.

“Before I even got into the fight stuff, I just want to talk to people and hear them tell the story in their own words. Vinny himself is a very compelling character so it was pretty entertaining to hear him tell me what happened. In old VHS tapes recorded by Vinny’s family members, we saw all these great moments — everything from the costumes they wore back then to a family dynamic that was insanely colorful. In fact, I couldn’t portray Vinny’s family as they actually were because the a udience wouldn’t believe it. I had to pull back rather than embellish.”
