Rome, 1630-40. The baroque sculptor Francesco Mochi creates the Baptism of Christ for the church of San Giovanni Battista de’ Fiorentini in Rome. The client who commissioned it refused it, sending it on a peregrination from place to place that would last almost four hundred years. Rome, January 2016: a group of visionaries decides to bring the sculpture back to where it was conceived. Suddenly, Christ breaks a four-hundred-year-silence and speaks to John the Baptist. [mp]

Declaration

film director

“The need to bring weight, measure, gravitation back to the place of cinema, in the face of the opaque tendencies of many contemporary filmmakers. […] The beautiful image for the sake of the beautiful image, seducing to seduce oneself, without any concrete element or information about the process, in its conflict. So we decided to make a true colossal in this new digital phase. To construct a colossal event which can put a few compositional elements of outside life back into the center of the image, to occupy that margin of time, of history, in order to encounter, finally, the dimension of beauty and its fragile eternity.”
