After inheriting a vast stretch of land on the border between Romania and Ukraine, Roman goes to visit his new property. His plan is to sell the land but Hogas, the neighborhood policeman, reveals to Roman that his grandfather was a local boss and that control of the business is now in the hands of a dangerous man, Samir. Thus, Roman’s project clashes with Samir’s plans and the guiltless city boy becomes a witness to an endless feud between local gangsters and the police. [mp]

Bogdan Mirică
Bogdan Mirică (Romania) until 2005 was a publisher, an advertising writer and a novelist, but he was so passionate about film that he attended Westminster University in London where he majored in screenwriting. After he graduated, he came back to Romania where he worked as a screenwriter. In 2011, Bogdan wrote and directed his first short film Bora Bora, picked by several festivals, including Locarno, Warsaw and Thessaloniki. In 2014, his feature film project Dogs was selected for the Cannes Cinéfondation Workshop and he won a grant from the Gan Foundation for Film. Dogs was then selected at Cannes Film Festival, in Un certain regard section.

“The film is about human nature. Granted – many films are. But there’s something special about the characters of Dogs – they’re aware that their nature is profoundly corrupted but they just can’t help it. Sometimes in life you’re aware that you’ve chosen the wrong path and yet you stay the course. That’s what happens to my characters. It’s probably because this contradiction is inherent to them and it’s beyond their control. […] Dogs is about three men who against all odds are very similar. They don’t just fight each other. Actually, they mostly struggle with themselves.”
