Declaration

film director

“The film’s story is a rather common one from Vienna in the 1950s if people had gone looking for it. Somewhere between the childhood memories of an old Viennese lady, the voice of Helmut Qualtinger and the Super8 films of my own childhood, one elusive feeling emerged that fascinated me. When I think back on my childhood, those memories seem to be a chain of images adjacent to each other. Whether I actually experienced these or whether I was just shown them or told about it later can be hard to say in retrospect. These are family pictures, never showing more than a fraction of reality, pictures of parties, family gatherings or everyday events that somehow end up forming the core of our memories, sometimes even replacing them altogether. The Impossible Picture is a film about memory and its inherent relation to filmmaking and to the films we all make, so to speak, whether we use a camera or not.”
