Declaration

film director

“Gipo, lo zingaro di Barriera is more than an attempt to discover who this character, Farassino, really was. There is more to this regional version of Johnny Cash than the underrated artist, pigeonholed and victim of others’ stereotypes. The film is also an expedition into the furthest corners of his very nature. The journey always brings us back to Barriera di Milano, a working-class area on the outskirts of Turin where Gipo was born in 1934. This peripheral neighborhood, while geographically limited, is also universal and boundless on an emotional level. It’s an indelible place of the soul.”
