The drowsy routine of a rainy South Korean town is rattled by a string of brutal murders that started when a man killed his entire family. The police found him on the crime scene in a state of shock, his skin covered in boils. Jong-gu is the (rather clumsy) officer handling the investigation. He starts running across other similar incidents, just as bizarre and gory, but cannot seem to find the reason for this string of deaths. The local press is attributing them to food poisoning, probably some kind of mushrooms. Residents in the area blame a Japanese man (which they simply call “the foreigner”) who has been living in the woods for some time. But the horrors have just begun… [cg]

Na Hong Jin
Na Hong-Jin (South Korea, 1974) is considered one of South Korea’s best thriller and fantasy filmmakers. He wrote and directed his first film The Perfect Fishplate in 2005, followed by Sweat in 2007. The Chaser (2008), his first feature, was screened at the Cannes Film Festival out of competition, making him known worldwide. The Yellow Sea (2011) participated in Cannes’s Certain Regard section and won many awards from festivals worldwide.
