KATE PLAYS CHRISTINE

KATE PLAYS CHRISTINE
by Robert Greene
Country: USA
Year: 2016
Duration: 110'

The actress Kate Lyn Sheil has to play a very difficult role in her next movie: that of Christine Chubbuck, the TV journalist who killed herself in 1974 during a live news broadcast. A one-of-a-kind event in the history of television. The documentary filmmaker Robert Greene follows the actress in her difficult task of identifying with the journalist, during the shooting of the movie, makeup sessions, discussions with her mother and her increasingly painful attempt to portray on the screen the story and the feelings of a woman about whom almost nothing is known, except for that desperate act. Declaration

film director

“I’ve been trying to make a film about Christine Chubbuck for nearly a decade, but I could never imagine a traditional documentary portrait. I didn’t want to make a straightforward story about a woman who committed suicide on live television […]. After my last movie Actress, however, I found a way in – by jumping into the murky waters between performance and documentary, I found a method that I thought might help me express that unknowable quality of Christine Chubbuck’s actions, without resorting to easy answers.”
