LA LOI DE LA JUNGLE

STRUGGLE FOR LIFE
by Antonin Peretjatko
Country: France
Year: 2016
Duration: 99'

When the French government decides to promote winter tourism in its territories in Guyana, it sends Marc Châtaigne, a clumsy functionary from the Ministry of Regulations and Standards, to supervise construction of a ski slope. After landing in Central America, the inexperienced bureaucrat finds himself dealing not only with the meager hospitality of the jungle, but also with a colleague whose looks are provocative but whose attitude is less than collaborative. [rm]

Declaration

film director

“I wanted a screenplay that would be more linear than what I habitually do, yet would express its full scope on screen with stronger characters and a wider range in terms of acting register. I wanted to dig deeper into the acting than I had with La fille du 14 juillet, which clearly wasn’t an actors’ film. I feel that Struggle for Life is both a director’s film and an actors’ film. We believe in the characters, we want to be with them or to be them. The movie gave me the opportunity to deepen my work with Vimala Pons and Vincent Macaigne. I wanted them to give me more of themselves.”
