LADY MACBETH

LADY MACBETH
by William Oldroyd
Country: UK
Year: 2016
Duration: 89'

Rural England, 1865. Katherine leads a miserable life, stifled by her loveless marriage to a bitter old man twice her age. Their relationship is in a deadlock, and so is the one with his cold, unforgiving family. She unexpectedly discovers love when she meets Alexander, a handsome and provocative twenty-two-year-old who works on her husband’s estate. The embers of feelings she thought were extinguished suddenly reawaken in her. They immediately connect with a burning passion. Katherine feels more powerful and alive than ever before, and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. [cg]

Declaration

film director

“When preparing to direct Lady Macbeth it was important for me to continue to put the actors and script at the center of the film. As a theater director I approach each project with respect for the writer and the script – it is quite common for the writer to be present throughout the rehearsal period and my main job is to help the actors to understand how best to realise the intentions of the writer.”
