Declaration

film director

“I have such a mixed response to the word ‘horror.’ The Others was definitely a big influence. I’m not really a horror fan, per se. Even though I appreciate some great movies that happen to be scary, I’m not really a fan of the genre. […] But what I liked about The Others was just that it was such a rich world of performances. […] The other movie that influenced my film was The Shining. There were times when I thought we were inadvertently referencing The Shining. It wasn’t outright plagiarism, but the shot of the girl in the hall is sort of like Kubrick’s classic center frame. I think it’s just where our tastes tend to go. We try to find things that we find to be creepy and unsettling.”
