LE FILS DE JEAN

A KID
by Philippe Lioret
Country: France
Year: 2016
Duration: 98'

Mathieu is in his early thirties. He was raised by his single mother and grew up believing he was the result of a one-night stand with a stranger. But when he receives a phone call, he discovers the identity of his father, a Canadian who recently passed away. He also finds out that he has two brothers. Mathieu decides to meet them and sets off for Montreal, where he has to come to terms with the disappointment of being the only one interested in that family reunion. [mp]

Declaration

film director

“I had read Jean-Paul Dubois’s novel a long time ago, and even though I didn’t know what film to make of it, it meant something special to me and I couldn’t put the book away on the shelf. After Welcome and All Our Desires, I wanted a sunny film and a starting point which is not in the book, but which the book inspired, came to mind: a man discovers he’s got two brothers he didn’t know about and wants to meet them. We got the rights for the book, but I didn’t reopen it; it’s only been a source of inspiration, a starting point. But without it, there wouldn’t have been a film.”
