LOS DECENTES

Belén finds a job as a cleaning lady for a wealthy Argentinian family living in a gated community outside Buenos Aires. One day, she makes a bizarre discovery: just on the other side of that respectable and tightly guarded place there is a lively community of nudists who pass the time by the pool or in tantric sex sessions. Like a siren’s song, Belén is drawn in and she soon finds herself living a double life, balancing between respectability and promiscuity. [mp]

“I’ve been living in Argentina for many years, and one trend that has become very apparent for wealthy social groups is to isolate themselves. Increasingly, these people live in small communities that are completely cut off, with semi-urban infrastructures like nurseries, offices, supermarkets, cinemas, etc., so you can live without any contact at all with the outside world. Then you get young people who go into the city at the age of sixteen and they don’t know how to take a bus. It strikes me as a contemporary phenomenon; I chalk it up to the effects of capitalism.”
