1967, the Cold War. The CIA suspects there is a Russian spy at NASA trying to sabotage the Apollo program. It sends in two young undercover agents who pretend to be directors interested in filming the Space Race. But what the two agents discover is much more shocking than the existence of a Russian spy: the U.S. government is hiding a secret about the Apollo program that could change history and it will stop at nothing before the program is completed. Matt Johnson
Matt Johnson (Toronto, Canada) studied film at York University. He cocreated the series Nirvana the Band the Show (2009) and in 2013 directed The Dirties, which received numerous awards, including the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative at the 2013 Slamdance Film Festival. Operation Avalanche is his second feature.

“After shooting The Dirties I wanted to see how someone like Matt [one of the two protagonists, who had also starred in Johnson’s previous movie, editor’s note] would behave if he had real power. I have always been fascinated by ambition and the limits people are willing to overcome to chase after power, and these seemed like interesting topics to deal with. My friendship with Owen also changed over time, partly because of these problems, and I wanted to bring it to the screen before it completely faded away.”
