Paloma Aguilera Valdebenito
Paloma Aguilera Valdebenito (Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 1982) moved to Paris at the age of eighteen to attend the drama school Acting International where she graduates as an actress a few years later. In 2005 she returned to Amsterdam to study at the Netherlands Film Academy. She graduated as a writer/director with the short film Stay, Away which received several awards at international film festivals and got nominated for Best European Short at the European Film Awards 2010. In 2011 she wrote and directed Entre Nosotros which won the FIPA International Film Festival in Biarritz and got nominated for the Best Debut Award at the Netherlands Film Festival. In 2012 she attended the Binger writers lab with her first feature film project Out of Love.

“Where does a ‘healthy’ relationship end and where does a destructive one begin? Just where do we draw the line? With Out of Love, I want to investigate the complexity of intimacy and the possibility of violence within a romantic relationship. Depicting the passion, euphoria and the spiritual affinity, but also the threat affiliated with the emotional exposure – the uncertainty, fear, shame – and the struggle between autonomy and dependency. The contradicting, often illogical, behaviour of human beings in their most vulnerable state of being is something that has always fascinated me.”
