To do something for the place where you live. To pass over it, underscore it, make it come alive through the courses traced by the wheels of skateboards which, sliding over mundane and forgotten space, mark it with different visions. To take all the time it needs, without fear of wasting it, repeating a trick over and over and thereby doing justice to the effort a fixation comports. To observe skaters, lunar beings, means to free the soul from the weight of having to do something with a return trip. It means crossing the threshold between realism and fiction, choosing a path which sees in reality things that are actually in your head. [rm]

Declaration
film director
“Making Pro Loco was pleasurably difficult because I found myself fighting, on the one hand, against the prejudices of people who find skateboarding superficial and, on the other, with the skaters, who are accustomed to standards of esthetics and content which didn’t interest me. In short, I didn’t want to make a ‘sports video’ with the classic fast editing of perfectly performed tricks.”
