Carlos Chahine

Carlos Chahine (Lebanon) leaves his mother country because of the war in 1975. After a diploma in dental surgery, a profession he never practiced, he discovered theater in Paris with Vera Gregh, who encouraged him to begin acting. Thus, he took courses at École nationale d’art dramatique, in Théâtre national de Strasbourg, from 1985 to 1988. After having worked in France and in Europe with directors such as Michel Vinaver, Matthias Langhoff, Silviu Purcărete, Alain Françon, René Loyon, Viviane Théophilidès, Stuart Seide, Philippe Van Kessel, Christian Rist, he made a comeback to Lebanon thanks to Ghassan Salhab, with whom he made two films, Terra incognita (2002) e Atlal (2006). In 2008, he wrote, directed and acted in his first short film, La route du Nord. The film received many international awards, including Best Narrative Short Award at Tribeca in 2009. Tchekhov à Beyrouth is his first documentary.
