Lisbon, Bairro das Colónias, third floor. Fatumata and Aissato, the mother and the eldest daughter of a large family originally from Guinea-Bissau, discuss love and happiness. At 7 pm, from the third to the fifth floor, a regular sound, always the same, like the beating of a heart, reverberates through the building. As a poem, a story, a letter and a prayer are spoken, words travel from one language to another, creating connections. [rm]

Luciana Fina
Luciana Fina has worked in Lisbon since 1991. Following a long collaboration with Cinemateca Portuguesa as an independent programmer, she made her debut as a filmmaker in 1998. In 2003, she began a series of video portraits that came together in the O Tempo de um Retrato project. Her work has been shown internationally at festivals and exhibitions. Her most recent documentary, In Medias Res, was awarded an Honourable Mention at the Temps d’Images Films on Art Award and the Best Portuguese Film Prize at the Arquiteturas Film Festival. She develops projects involving creating visual identity, photography and graphic and editorial design.

From the fifth to the third floor, in the shared space of an apartment building in historical downtown Lisbon, a conversation with two women from Guinea-Bissau articulates generations, memories, languages and experiences which have molded our lives and our emotions. By its nature, cinema focuses on things, it selects, captures, enlarges or brings them closer. And it produces images not only to tell stories, but to create ties, acknowledging the compatible and the incompatible, the sensitive encounter of different universes.”
