Wissam Charaf

Wissam Charaf is a Lebanese-French autodidact director based between Paris and Beirut. After working in pirate radio at the end of the lebanese civil war in the late 1980s, he left for Paris in 1998. There he worked as a cameraman and editor for Arte. He has since covered major conflict areas ranging from Lebanon and the Near East to Darfour, Afghanistan, or North Korea. During that period, he also worked as an assistant director on music videos with French director Henri-Jean Debon. He has directed four short films and the feature documentary It’s All in Lebanon. These films have participated in festivals such as Locarno, Belfort, Clermont-ferrand, Visions du réel, Carthage, Rotterdam, Dubai and many more. Heaven Sent, premiering in 2016 Cannes Film Festival’s Acid selection, is his first feature film.
