Bob and Terry are a couple of cops with rough manners and a few bad habits that don’t mix well with their job. Alcohol, cocaine, strip clubs, speeding down the roads of New Mexico, and making a few extra bucks with their badges are just some of their favorite things. But when they go too far, stepping on the toes of James Mangan, a British aristocrat and crime lord, they will have to deal with some explosive and tragicomic consequences. [rm]

John Michael McDonagh
John Michael McDonagh (London, UK, 1967) made his first short film, the The Second Death, in 2000. In 2011, he wrote and directed his first feature, The Guard, a crime drama with comic undertones (starring Brendan Gleeson) that received many awards, including the Honorable Mention for Best Debut Film at the Berlinale. He participated again at the Berlinale in 2014 with his next movie, Calvary (which also featured Gleeson in the lead role), winning the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. War on Everyone was the first film he made in the United States.

“When I was asked about the projects I was developing, and I mentioned War on Everyone, I said that it was The French Connection meets Hellzapoppin’. I was only being partly facetious. War on Everyone is a buddy-buddy black comedy with a 1970s feel to it, outlandish visual and verbal humour, left-field narrative turns, and the music of Glen Campbell. The Guard and Calvary were directed in a measured, contemplative style, relevant to the subject matter. This one has a very different dynamic, one of quick-paced scenes followed by calm, contemplative moments.”
