WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS

WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS
by Otto Preminger
Country: USA
Year: 1950
Duration: 95'

Detective Dixon has been reprimanded for the umpteenth time by his superiors: his unconventional and violent ways will no longer be tolerated. During a scuffle, he involuntarily kills Kenneth Paine, a murder suspect and well-known gambler; Dixon is now in real trouble. After getting rid of the man’s body, he is assigned the case and has to find the man’s assassin. He tries to frame the gambling boss Tommy Scalise but by mistake puts suspicion on the taxi driver Jiggs Taylor, Paine’s father-in-law. Dixon meets Morgan, who is Taylor’s daughter and the victim’s unhappy wife; he falls in love with her and realizes he has to do everything he can to keep the man out of prison. [rm]
