Declaration

film director

“As often happens, we are always the last ones to discover the stories that are closest to home. That’s what happened to me. I had just gotten my driver’s license and each time I returned home in the evening my grandfather would follow me in his car until he was sure that I had closed the front door behind me. I didn’t understand why. Then I found out, and I understood. My father had been kidnapped, he was a victim of the ’ndrangheta; he had suffered but he had escaped on his own and had returned home to us. Everything changes. A story of pain and suffering is immediately transformed into a story of courage and hope. From that moment on, my objective was to reconstruct those seventy-eight days. I gathered the testimony of the people who had experienced it first-hand, I reconstructed the puzzle of a story that had to be told.”
