AL MASSIMO RIBASSO

TO THE LOWEST BID
by Riccardo Iacopino
Country: Italy
Year: 2017
Duration: 100'

Diego has a secret which weighs on him like a curse, a strange talent which makes him different from the others. He refuses it, but even so he exploits it for his work. He digs up industrial secrets which let Mafia-run companies win contracts for public works. It is the demi-monde of collusion between corruption and criminality. Diego works with the torturers but lives in the midst of the victims. One day, he falls in love with a woman who is fighting to rebuild a life for herself. Their paths cross and he will be forced to make a choice.

Declaration

film director

“The idea behind Al massimo ribasso comes from the need to recount an aspect of social life which is very up-to-date, the tenders for public works contracts in which the winner is whoever makes the lowest bid to carry out a particular service, to the detriment of quality, safety, efficiency and dignity. I also wanted to do so without getting tangled up in the usual points of view: of the good guys, at hagiographic risk, or of the bad guys, where it’s easy to fall into an ambiguous identification with characters who have little or nothing that is positive or commendable about them.”
