BARRAGE

BARRAGE
by Laura Schroeder
Country: Luxemburg, Belgium
Year: 2017
Duration: 110'

After spending ten years abroad, Catherine returns to Luxemburg to rejoin her daughter Alba, who was brought up by her grandmother, Elisabeth. Alba is cold and distant with this stranger who has appeared out of nowhere in her life. As for Elisabeth, she only wants to protect her granddaughter and keep her daughter at a distance. One day, Catherine, exasperated, decides to take matters into her own hands and takes Alba on an outing to a lake in the north of the country. This is the beginning of an unusual journey, during which the young woman will have to understand at her own expense that she might be her own greatest adversary.

Declaration

film director

“I consider Barrage a movie about parentage, childhood. Who really is a person’s child and what does it mean to have a child on your own? What Catherine experienced with her mother has repercussions on her relationship with her daughter. She would therefore like to shake off maternal rule and avoid making the same mistakes with Alba. At the same time, her return into her daughter’s life is very selfish: Catherine knows she has failed in the past and tries to fill a void.”
