ESSI BRUCIANO ANCORA

ILS BRÛLENT ENCORE
by Felice D’Agostino, Arturo Lavorato
Country: Italy, France
Year: 2017
Duration: 90'

In Italy, official history states that the country unification in 1861 was a victorious revolution in the name of progress and civilization. They still burn stands on the fringe of this narrative; rooted in a popular, underground memory, the film questions the country’s unification as a form of colonization, still in progress, of Southern Italy.

Declaration

film director

“Sunshine and famine! Down here in Calabria, politics, ’ndrangheta and Carabinieri all seem like the same mysteries, we’re too scared of all of them… Combatants and the combative, thieves, slaves, servants and louts, blacks, Mafiosi and whores. The (un)confined and barriers, money, loyalty and reality, visible and not. Choices. And us? Bodies hurled into cinema, landscapes poured out by history – and among the hundreds of spoken words, at least as many are held back. It’s Fanon... it’s Césaire... A gift on paper of a condition we were unable to talk about… Tensions of flesh and muscles poised to spring… Dreamt violence, the slave of man… Colonization! Colonization! Colonization!” (albertoarturofelicecaterinakaterinalamineloredanamarianataletoni)
