FINAL PORTRAIT

FINAL PORTRAIT
by Stanley Tucci
Country: UK
Year: 2017
Duration: 90'

In 1964, during a short trip to Paris, the American author and art aficionado James Lord encounters his friend Alberto Giacometti, the internationally renowned painter and sculptor, who asks Lord to pose for him. The Swiss artist promises him that the sittings will only last a few days. Flattered and intrigued, Lord accepts. Not only is it the beginning of an unusual and touching relationship, but also, through Lord’s eyes, an illuminating journey into beauty, frustrations, and the depth and – sometimes – the true chaos of the artistic process.

Declaration

film director

“I am a great fan of Giacometti’s work. I always have been. At a certain point, I began to read everything I could find about him, including the book on which this film is based, A Giacometti Portrait. I’ve been carrying it around with me for over twenty years. I wrote this movie ten years ago, or maybe even longer than that. I have always been interested in the creative process: why an artist does what he does, the relationship between his work and society.”
