Declaration

film director

“This movie was born in a creative spirit of collaboration. Grace has always meticulously controlled her public image, but she has wisely decided to take off the mask. She never tried to control the shooting and I never doubted her narrative process as I was shooting. For five years, I simply gathered evidence. The simplicity of the shots allowed me to establish an intimacy with Grace and to react to the visual abundance of the places and the shared moments. But the power of Grace’s performances called for a more complex level of visual and sound production. This showed me how important the mise-en-scène was for her and we created a unique theatre studio for this movie.”
