Sarah, at fifteen years of age, returns to figure skating at the Colmar club without knowing whether she is doing it for herself or for her mother. She is confronted with the violence of high level competition, rivalry between the girls, and the harsh words of the trainer. While her body is put through its paces by the ice, her adolescent desires turn her attention away from her sporting ambitions.

Chloe Mahieu
Chloé Mahieu (France) studied history and then art history at the École du Louvre. Between 2003 and 2006 she collaborated on the sets of fiction shorts and feature films and in 2007 she dedicated herself to working for TV, starting with socially-relevant topics. In 2008 she directed her first movie, Gentlemen cambrioleurs, which depicts various robbers and anarchic writers.

Lila Pinell
Lila Pinell (France) studied philosophy and got a master’s degree in documentary directing in Lussas between 2005 and 2006. Her first film, Nous arrivons, deals with the daily life of a group of children in a self-managed holiday camp.

“Kiss and Cry is a sort of extension of the medium-length Boucle piqué. Most of the same protagonists are in it and through fiction we deal with the question of the desires of adolescents and their submission to the more authoritarian desires of adults. The shooting of Boucle piqué didn’t last long, only a dozen days. Instead, for Kiss & Cry, we had five weeks to push ourselves beyond the fiction, to imagine a story improvised by our non-professional actors and to also insert a few dreamlike sequences, an idea which was already hinted at in the preceding film.”
