MARGEM SUL

MARGEM SUL
by José Álvaro Morais
Country: Portugal
Year: 1994
Duration: 25'

Commissioned by Portoguese public television and produced by Joaquim Pinto, a film realized with the cut-offs from Zefiro. Lisbon, the final boundary of the Mediterranean, which joins the Atlantic Ocean across the endless estuary of the Tago river. It is continuously and incessantly navigated by the cacilheiros, the public transportation boats which connect the two banks of the river. On the one side, the plains of Alentejo, whose southern border is the mountain chain in the Algarve, the land of people who have coexisted for centuries in Portugal; on the other side, the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, which seems like a continuation of the Mediterranean.
