A day in the life of Luciana, a young Spanish undocumented immigrant living in New York. She has fled from her past and is now trapped in a challenging routine involving juggling multiple jobs to make ends meet, and hopes (often shattered) for a stable future. The situation is already unsustainable, physically and emotionally. It becomes even worse when Luciana finds herself in the middle of a complicated game that is much bigger than her, and which doesn’t seem to have any way out…

Ana Asensio
Ana Asensio (Madrid, Spain, 1978) is an actress and filmmaker who lives in Brooklyn, New York. She performed in many Spanish television shows before moving to the United States, a crucial experience in the creation of her directorial debut, Most Beautiful Island. She also participated in several shorts and full-length features, including The Afterlight (2006) by Alexei Kaleina and Craig William MacNeill, Zenith (2010) by Vladan Nikolic, Fresh Flesh (2011) by Tirso Calero, and The Archive (2015) by Ethan Spiglan.

“My biggest influences in filmmaking are Cassavetes, the Dardenne brothers, Kieślowski, Andrea Arnold and, of particular influence on my thinking about this film, Cristian Mungiu’s 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. Their films are spare and intimate, they create an entire world around the protagonist that is immediately gripping. With Most Beautiful Island, I am aspiring to express my own distinct voice in this same fashion – drawing on their inspiration, and channeling my own personal history and creative vision.”
