NELLA GOLENA DEI MORTI FELICI

IN THE BOTTOM LAND OF HAPPY DEATH
by Marco Morandi
Country: Italy
Year: 2017
Duration: 46'

Among the ravines and flood plains of the Senio river, in the lower part of the province of Romagna, the small town of Cotignola prepares to construct a large arena made out of bales of hay; it will host readings, performances and concerts. It turns into a big party but two trivial accidents, under similar circumstances, cause the death of two of the organizers. The victims encounter each other in a parallel dimension, where the boundary with the real world becomes increasingly insubstantial.

Declaration

film director

“A surreal voyage into Romagna’s philosophy and its theatricality, a place where people blend with the landscape by celebrating their own oblivious comedy; like a natural, metaphysical act, like the passage from life to death. The idea of death is impressed in the memory like a furrow in those fields, which had been divided seventy years earlier by the front line during the war. The bales of hay became an ephemeral architecture of a “scattered theatre” in the landscape, a stage of life in the countryside, the simulacrum of a world that still pulses despite the crushing weight of a blind modernity.”
