PAYDAY

PAYDAY
by Daryl Duke
Country: USA
Year: 1973
Duration: 103'

Maury Dann, a country singer who gained notoriety later on in his career, is traveling on a promotional tour in the southern United States. He is known for being a manipulative and selfish person who tries to spin every situation to his advantage by any means necessary, including violence and fraud. Every day rolls by the same, from the backseat of a Cadillac on the road from one city to the next. Desperate, but too egocentric to admit it, he self-medicates with various pills and drugs to get away from his daily descent into hell. His girlfriend Mayleen (on whom he regularly cheats, and even abandons her in the middle of nowhere after an argument) is also on tour with him, along with the band’s musicians (frequently fired for the most absurd reasons), and their manager Clarence McGinty, who never hesitates to cheat and break the law to save Maury from the trouble he gets himself into.
