F.J. Ossang

F.J. Ossang (France, 1956), writer and director, first studied philosophy and law before graduating from IDHEC in 1981. In 1977, he founded “CEE,” a literature periodical, then in 1980 he launched his own noise’n’roll band called MKB Fraction Provisoire. His first feature, The Case of The Morituri Divisions (1985), premiered in Cannes and he went on to sign Treasure of The Bitch Islands (1990), Doctor Chance (1997), which was selected in Concorso internazionale at Locarno, the short Silencio, Jean Vigo Award in 2007, and Dharma Guns (2010), screened in Venice in the Orizzonti section. With his last feature 9 doigts (2017), he returned in Locarno competition and won Best Directing Award. In 1998, he has been honored with a retrospective at Festival de La Rochelle in France and thereafter, other retrospectives followed at BAFICI, Jeu de Paume in Paris, Spanish Filmoteca and Palic European Film Festival where he got the Underground Spirit Award.
