David Freyne
(Ireland) after obtaining a master's degree in cinema at University College Dublin, co-founded the production company Tilted Pictures with which he directed several short multi-award-winning short films. At the Edinburgh International Film Festival, he won the prize for the best Pitch for what will become his first feature, The Cured. In 2012, at the Binger Film Lab, he started working on the film. With the support of the Irish Film Board, David shot a short film in the form of a prologue to The Cured. The short film went viral and attracted the attention of many funders. In 2025 he directed the movie Eternity starring Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, and Callum Turner.

“As a filmmaker my passion has always been in making smart genre films, with a particularly morbid fascination with zombies. It is a genre that can, at its best, brilliantly reflect contemporary issues. Once I started thinking about what would happen if there were a cure to such a zombie infection, I couldn’t stop. What does it mean to be an ex-zombie? The idea of the cured being haunted with the memories of what they did while infected was terrifying and, above all, heartbreaking. The thought kept swirling in my mind: would their families accept them? Can you ever truly become human again?”
