Walter is a sixty-year-old mover for forced evictions. He is the best and most loyal hauler that Walter’s boss Roland Grone employs at his house moving company. Grone is planning a risky real estate deal that involves money laundering for a notorious family clan. The tenants of an inner-city apartment building are supposed to be evicted and the house re-sold with a huge profit. However, one remaining tenant refuses to leave his home. Since then something will change and Walter will have to confront not only his crooked boss but also his own past.

David Nawrath
David Nawrath (Berlin, Germany), half German and half Iranian, moved to Tehran, Iran at the age of eleven and lived there for two years. This experience lead to his feature documentary Moharram (2005), which marked his first step into filmmaking. In 2005 he started studying directing at the German Film- and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB). His first short film What’s Left was nominated for the official German Short Film Award and for the official European Film Academy Short. In 2011 he was selected for the Résidence du Festival de Cannes in Paris. Atlas, which was shot in 2017, is his first feature film.

With Atlas I wanted to make a movie that doesn't emotionally lash out at you. Instead it's supposed to slowly pull you in as a viewer, increasing its grip on you as you go along. Stylistically I wanted it to be straightforward, no gimmicks or horseplay, but with an unpredictable plot. Just like its main character Walter, who's the center of our story: a very low key, quiet person, who on the inside experiences this profound drama.
