AZ ÚR HANGJA

HIS MASTER'S VOICE
by György Pálfi
Country: Canada, Hungary, France, Sweden, USA
Year: 2018
Duration: 108'

Péter is in his late thirties when he thinks he recognizes his father in a documentary on a mysterious accident. His father has deserted from Communist Hungary in the 1970s, a criminal offense under that regime, and has not been heard of since. Péter travels to America and, after an eventful investigation, finds his father and his new family. The reunion brings plenty of experiences and teaches several lessons to both son and father. Also the world is informed that the mute universe has spoken and that we are not alone.

Declaration

film director

“We follow Péter who is looking for the father he never knew in a land he’s never been to before. However, we do not tell a story with its ‘horizontal’ story line and its own, emotional logic. We also move ‘vertically.’ We get a peek at the events in Péter’s head, where a clandestine military research project from forty years ago is reconstructed from documents, morsels of information and YouTube videos.”
