DRIVE-IN

DRIVE-IN
by Demetrio Giacomelli
Country: Italy
Year: 2018
Duration: 16'

The director, gripped by anxiety, is driving around the streets of Milan. He tells a racist joke, but then he justifies himself by saying it’s just a performance act. The street isn’t enough. He closes himself in a garage and he projects his biography on the windshield as if it were a movie on screen. But he can’t resist the temptation to forge his existence and imbue it with dreams.

Declaration

film director

“Cars are an invention that always fascinated me. The windshield fractions reality in countless frames whose object is the distance between one point and another […]. When you’re inside a car, [reality] comes toward you and passes on. It might be the closest experience to being film: we are transformed into the film-medium. We are stationary and in movement at the same time. This contradictory condition is the object of this short.
