BETWEEN TWO WATERS
by Isaki Lacuesta
Country: Spain
Year: 2018
Duration: 136'

Twelve years after La leyenda del tiempo, the protagonists of that movie return, the Rom brothers Isra and Cheíto, who have become adults in the meantime. Isra was sentenced for drug trafficking, and Cheíto enlisted in the Navy. When the first is released from prison and the second returns home after a mission, they rejoin in their hometown, San Fernando. Isra would like to regain the trust of his wife and daughters but he has trouble finding a job; instead, Cheíto has to get used to life on dry land once again. Their reunion rekindles their pain for their father’s violent death, but they are able to rediscover their solidarity, moved by the desire to change their lives.

Declaration

film director

“Our aim is to portray different life stories, faces, bodies, ways of life and places over time, capturing the metamorphosis as it occurs. After all, capturing time, all that is mutable, is one of the most intrinsic qualities of cinematic language. When we began work on The Legend of Time, we were enrolling in the tradition of which François Truffaut is probably the best-known exponent – thanks to his portraits of Jean Pierre Léaud playing Antoine Doinel.”
