ET IN TERRA PACIS

ET IN TERRA PACIS
by Mattia Epifani
Country: Italy
Year: 2018
Duration: 28'

Regina Pacis was the largest temporary detention center in Italy. Located along the coast of Salento, it held over sixty-thousand migrants between 1998 and 2006. It was later abandoned for several years and subsequently purchased by some private investors who intended to turn it into a luxury resort. The construction work, however, revealed the indelible marks of a past made of violence and abuses, which resurfaced years later to free victims and oppressors from oblivion once and for all.

Declaration

film director

“Et in terra pacis is a story of ghosts and deleted memories […]. For a long time, Regina Pacis was an abandoned ruin on the Adriatic coast, a place with a hidden history within it. Et in terra pacis originated from observing this place and from wanting to discover its history and mysteries. [The film] tells the story of this place, of its physical structure and its spirit, as if it were the portrait of a person, of someone who can talk about themselves through the scars on their body.”
