Michaël Dacheux
Michaël Dacheux (France, 1978) was born in the Southwest of France, then he moved to Paris and worked there as a trainee on sets. In 2008, he directed his first film, Commune présence, which premiered at FIDMarseille. In 2009, Sur le départ won the Brive Festival Script contest, the Jury Award at the LGBT Festival in Paris, and was selected in various festivals (Nice, Bruxelles, Turin, Brive).

“I was born and grew up in the country, and Paris was far away. I come from the Landes (Southwest region of France) and my previous short film Sur le départ directly raises the question of staying or leaving. Besides, I was interested in the reality of a young speaker who leads cinema workshops: which seems far from exotic but it shows a social reality that is not often represented. As if it was indecent to show it in films, even if these activities are part of the daily lives of many people I know. By filming these frictions, the beginnings in Paris of a young man not established in the cinema industry, but who wishes to make films, and other characters who belong to very different social realities, like high school students from the suburbs, a sociocultural speaker or a film critic, the matter was as much ethnography than fiction.”
