Andréa, a drifter, lives suspended between dreams and reality on the beaches of the Garonne. He is in the throes of a physical and existential crisis and finds himself hospitalized. There, he meets Dr. Michelle and Nurse Fatima, two women whom he ardently desires and who gently accompany him on his final journey down the river, toward the ocean, and into the unknown.

Mathieu Lis
Mathieu Lis graduated from the Institut d’études politiques in Paris and received his degree from the Université Paris-Dauphine; he has made various short and medium-length films which have been presented at the Cinémathèque française and selected for participation at French and international festivals. He and Delphine Kreuter wrote 57000 km entre nous, a film which Kreuter directed and which won prizes at the Tribeca and Taipei festivals. For several years, he helped make documentaries for television, in particular he wrote the screenplays for historical and political movies. The short version of Sans rivages, Craché dehors, was broadcast this year on France 2.

“I wanted to film feelings, which means to film a body. The body of a man who has come to the end, of his tether whose every fiber is whisky-soaked, who has an incurable nostalgia for a lost sense of union… A union with the sea, with other people, with the cosmos… Perhaps with God? I didn’t think I’d be asking myself these questions. It was only while making the movie, and in particular during the editing, that I discovered what was truly consuming me, what moved me. I thought I was making a materialistic movie and instead I made a mystical film.”
