Taurunum boys, as Belgrade was once called from the name of the ancient outpost of the Roman Empire, seem tough. They spend their time hanging around abandoned places, throwing parties and riding bikes. Their dreams are simple and their loves are unrequited. This summer brings them into adulthood.

Dušan Grubin
Dušan Grubin graduated from Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade. As a DOP, he worked on films that have participated at many important festivals, nation and worldwide. He directed several music videos. Taurunum Boy is his debut film.

Jelena Maksimović edited films that have been screened at major festivals and directed several shorts. She teaches at the faculty of Media and Communications in Belgrade and works as a programmer at The Free Zone Film Festival.

“We wanted to make a film about the place where we grew up and to develop a sort of study about today’s kids from the same enviroment. We were filming in Zemun, a very specific part of Belgrade with widespread gang culture, a strong criminal legacy from the 90s, and deeply rooted patriarchal values. Because of all this, being a boy in Zemun in never easy. One needs to cover up any gentleness and act though all the time. Our desire was to show the other face of these boys, a face that is hidden and almost forbidden. We dedicated our time to watch and wait for them to open in front of the camera and show their tender and kind side.”
