Juliana has just moved from her hometown to a bigger city to work for the public health disease eradication program. On her new job she meets people, makes friends and has new experiences that start changing her life. At the same time, she feels she is losing her husband left behind in the backlands.

André Novais Oliveira
André Novais Oliveira (Brazil, 1984) graduated in history by Pontifícia Universidade Católica of Minas Gerais and in cinema by Escola Livre de Cinema in Belo Horizonte. He has directed the short films Fantasmas (2010), Pouco Mais de um Mês (2013) and Quintal (2015), these two selected for Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. In 2014 he realized the documentary feature Ela Volta na Quinta (2014), selected at FID Marseille, Rotterdam, and BAFICI. Temporada is his second feature. He has been a partner in the production company Filmes de Plástico since 2009, along with Gabriel Martins, Maurilio Martins and Thiago Macêdo Correia.

“The film focuses on a black woman as its protagonist, on her place in the world, her strength, her body. It was very important to focus on a more complex portrayal of marginalized characters, especially in Brazil’s current political climate with its prejudices against and discrimination of the poor. We also tried to portray the black community, giving special attention to its depiction since many films show black characters only as stereotypes, specifically if they come from favelas. I tried to show these aspects of Brazilian society in a different, more human and sincere way, not equaling their world exclusively to violence, drugs or the usual matters that ‘determine’ the social perception of the suburbs.”
