VARGUR

VULTURES
by Börkur Sigþórsson
Country: Iceland
Year: 2018
Duration: 90'

Erik represents the aspirational face of modern Iceland. Atli, a petty criminal just released from prison, is stuck in a downward spiral. The distance between these two very different brothers vanishes when the duo teams up to smuggle cocaine into Iceland, inside plastic pellets swallowed by a young Polish mule, Sofia. But things go wrong when rule-breaking cop Lena starts closing in on them.

FILMOGRAFIA

Support (cm, 2008), Come to Harm (cm, 2011), Ófærð (Trapped, 6 ep., serie tv/tv series, 2016-2019), Vargur (Vultures, 2018).

Declaration

film director

“The story plays on the difference between the two brothers, who symbolize the new vs. the old. Atli is a bottom-rung criminal while Erik epitomizes the new Iceland: seemingly successful while actually in debt and guilty of embezzling large amounts of money from his employers in order to fund his lifestyle. Like most noirs, Vultures features a strong anti-hero at its core. Through Erik, the story ploughs the depths of individual survival instincts and explores just how far are we willing to go to protect our own interest.”
