According to Spanish legend, whoever is born on Christmas day turns into a werewolf: Leon, the son of a young woman who was raped by a crazy prisoner serving a life sentence, was born on December 25th and he struggles against his penchant for blood. Hammer’s Werewolf is decidedly superior to those played by Lon Chaney, Jr. for Universal: at every full moon, Oliver Reed suffers and fights against his curse, a tormented human in the midst of the injustice and violence of the masters of the town.
