Declaration

film director

“I have known Viola for quite some time and I have always found her family narrative fascinating. The theme of the film is extremely complex and delicate, I was attracted by the possibility of telling this story through such a profoundly symbolic object: a clay sculpture, a small unknown work, made many years ago as a symbol of friendship and hope. Pasolini and Zigaina shaped it thinking about the child that Viola's grandmother would soon give birth to: her father. And it is precisely with this child that Viola tries to dialogue in order to know her own story. On the one hand, I tried to tell this story through the possibility that doubles can offer: allowing us to do things we would otherwise be unable to accomplish, leading us to explore our gray areas in order to overcome the traumas we carry with us. On the other hand, to express this sentimental research, this emotional journey between the cracks of memory, I decided to use archival materials, plundering collective memory. Pieces of life that belonged to others to bring back a woman, a memory, a relationship. Over time, the little golem has become a symbol of the love between a parent and a child. Generations pass, but emotional bonds remain. It is all we have”.
